Privacy policy

This privacy policy describes what Preparer Index collects when you visit the directory, what we do with it, and how to opt out where applicable. It applies to all pages on this site.

Information we collect automatically

Like most websites, Preparer Index’s servers automatically log standard request information when you visit a page: your IP address, the page you requested, the referring URL, your user-agent string, and a timestamp. These logs are used only to diagnose technical issues and to detect abusive traffic patterns. We retain raw logs for thirty days and delete them automatically thereafter.

Cookies

Preparer Index itself does not set first-party tracking cookies. Display advertising on the site is served by third parties (currently Google AdSense placeholders), which may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. You may opt out of personalized advertising at youradchoices.com or through your browser’s privacy controls.

Information about preparers

Information shown on state, city, and credential listing pages is drawn entirely from the IRS's public PTIN holders extract, as described on our methodology page. We do not collect or display non-public information about preparers, and there are no individual preparer profile pages. Preparers may request corrections or removal at any time via our contact page.

Children

The directory is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we will update the date at the bottom of this page and post a brief notice on the homepage. This policy was last updated in July 2026.
